Home-made Snowskin Mooncakes

30 Sep

Today is Mid-autumn’s Festival (中秋节). It’s a festival celebrated by Chinese whereby family and friends will get together to eat mooncakes, drink tea, chit-chat and children will play with lanterns. All these take place under the beautiful full moon.

My family usually buy mooncakes for the festival. This year I decided to make some snowskin mooncakes for the festival. The recipe is given by a colleague who strongly encourages me to try as the steps are rather easy. So, I went ahead to buy the snowskin premix and ingredients at Phoon Huat and tried it yesterday’s afternoon.

The steps are easy but it is really tiring kneading the dough. But nevertheless, I feel that it’s worth the effort! 🙂

Do try out the recipe! The steps are really simple. Remember to put them in the fridge before eating. Personally, I think it taste better that way. 😉

Snowskin Mooncakes

  • 500 g Red Man Snowskin Premix (contains icing sugar, glutinous rice flour, full cream milk powder & stabiliser)
  • 200 – 225 g of water
  • 100 g Red Man shortening
  • 1 g Red Man pandan flavoured sugar free lotus paste
  • Few drops of green colouring (or any colour of your choice)

  1. Mix the premix with water and knead into a dough.
  2. Add the shortening and continue kneading.
  3. Add 2-3 drops of colouring and knead the dough to even out the colour. Add more colouring and knead till desired shade.
  4. Rest for 15 to 50 minutes.
  5. Cut, add paste and mould into shape. Remeber to apply some cake flour to the mould to prevent the snowskin from sticking to the mould.

Rich Colours @ Uniqlo

29 Sep

Recently, I saw a pleated skirt @ Uniqlo. It looks simple but is very pretty and versatile for mix and match. The skirt is available in many rich colours such as purple (periwinkle blue), orange (rust), yellow (mustard yellow) and green (pine green). I was immediately attracted to it and bought one in purple/periwinkle blue @ SGD 34.90. My other choice was the orange/rust one. I’ve also bought 2 laced tank tops that can be worn under jackets and cardigans. They only cost SGD 9.90 each!

Art Jamming @ Home

14 Sep

After the few art jamming sessions, I’ve decided to pick up drawing and painting as a hobby again. So, I’ve bought some canvases and acrylic paint from Spotlight Singapore and started painting at home last weekend.

My first piece of artwork done at home is dedicated to a friend. She likes my “Rainbow Tree” and I thought it would be nice to paint something similar for her. After looking through the internet for inspiration, I decided to paint a 4-seasons-in-1 painting for her. I hope that she’ll like it! 🙂

Art Jamming 5: Rainbow Tree

8 Sep

Not long ago, I’ve posted my draft of the rainbow tree here. Today, I’ve finally painted it during my 5th art jamming session. Here’s my artpiece. Hope that it makes you feel happy as I intended it to be colourful and happy. I also hope that my friend who receives it as her birthday gift will feel happy too. 🙂
